本研究では生体系でモノオキシゲナーゼとして作用しているメタンモノオキシゲナーゼ(MMO:二核鉄および多核銅錯体)などの機能モデルとして,二核鉄及び銅酸素錯体の設計・開発を目的とし,下記に述べるMMOの反応中間体モデルとしてカルボン酸イオンを多く含む二核鉄パーオキソ錯体,および高原子価銅(III)オキソ錯体の合成に成功した。<鉄錯体> MMOのパーオキソ中間体モデルとして,(μ-O_2)(μ-O or μ-OH)Fe(III)_2コアーを持つ2種のパーオキソ錯体を合成し,それらの結晶構造,共鳴ラマンおよびメスバウアースペクトル等より,MMOなどで観測されているパーオキソ中間体は,(μ-O_2)(μ-OH)Fe(III)_2コアーを持っていることが示唆された。またモノオキシゲナーゼの反応モデルとして,カルボン酸イオンを多く含む二核鉄(III)錯体と過酸化水素との反応により,配位子に組み込んだベンゼン環の効率的かつ位置選択的水酸化に成功した。<銅錯体> 三脚型四座配位子(bis{(6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)}(2-pyridylmethyl)amine : Me_2-tpa)を含む銅(I)錯体([Cu(Me_2-tpa)]^+:1)と酸素との反応で得られたbis(μ-oxo)Cu(III)_2コアを持つ高原子価銅(III)錯体([Cu_2(μ-O)_2(Me_2-tpa)_2]^<2+>:2)は,CH_2Cl_2,-80℃で窒素ガスを吹き込むと銅(I)錯体1に可逆的に変換し,酸素-酸素結合を再生する。このような酸素-酸素結合と開裂を可逆的に制御できる系はこれが初めてであり,光合成系IIの酸素発生中心での水の酸化による酸素発生のモデルとして重要である。また錯体2は配位子のメチレン基を水酸化し,カルビノールアミンを経てN-脱アルキル化し,モノオキシゲナーゼ活性を有することも明らかとなった。
