本研究では，幼児・児童の数能力の発達を測定する上で最も重要な指標のひとつであり，等間隔に数を表象する能力である「心的数直線(mental number line)」と手指の関係について検討した。その結果，数記号であらわされるような抽象的な数直線は突然形成されるのではなく，その前段階として，Okamoto(2010)が指摘していた「心的モノ直線（mental “object” line）」が形成されることが示唆された。また，年長児と小学１年生では，心的数直線と手指のイメージに関連が見られた一方，小学２年生では両者に関連は見られなかったことから，心的モノ直線のモノは手指である可能性が示唆された。
In this study, we examined the relationship between the mental number line, which is one of the most important indicators for measuring the development of number ability in infants and children, and the ability to represent numbers at equal intervals, and the fingers. As a result, it was suggested that the mental "object" line, which was pointed out by Okamoto (2010), was formed as a preliminary step to the formation of the abstract number line. In addition, there was a relationship between mental number lines and hand images in kindergarten older children and first graders, while there was no relationship between the both in second graders, suggesting that the object of the mental "object" line may be the fingers.
