本研究の目的は、芸能と社会との関係を主軸に大阪四花街の歴史を追究し、その社会的機能を明らかにすることであった。主な成果は次の通りである。①大阪花街は第五回内国勧業博覧会を契機に、大阪以外で発祥した芸能を受容した。②各花街では東京や名古屋から師匠を招いて芸妓を養成したが、大阪発祥の地歌・地歌舞等の伝承にも努めた。③各花街の特色は客層だけでなく、協力者の違いによるものと考えられる。④各演舞場は花街と市民の接点となり、社会変化に応じて構造を変えた。
The purpose of this research is to track what kind of social role Osaka Kagai played from the viewpoint of performing arts.The main results are as follows. (1) Osaka Kagai accepted performing arts that occurred outside of Osaka after the 5th National Industrial Exhibition. (2) Each Kagai trained geiko by inviting masters from Tokyo or Nagoya. In Kagai, the performing arts that originated in Osaka were also handed down. (3) It is thought that the characteristics of each Kagai depend not only on the customer base but also on the differences in the collaborators. (4)Each Enbujo（Theater）became a point of contact between Kagai and the citizens. The Enbujo changed its structure in response to changes in society.
