白金の核磁性を解明するために、白金試料を10^<-6>K以下に冷却する核断熱冷却装置、核磁気秩序測定に必要な帯磁率測定装置の設計・開発をおこなった。冷却装置については、(1)超伝導体であるインジイウムの性質を利用した、希釈冷凍機と核ステージを接続する熱スイッチ、(2)白金の磁化から温度を測定する白金pulse-NMR温度計、(3)有効26モルの銅を寒剤とする核ステージ、などから構成される1段核断熱冷却装置を製作した。また物性測定装置として、SQUID素子を零点検出機に用いた交流帯磁率・静磁化測定装置を設計・製作した。これらの装置の試験をするため、まず試料としてCeRu_2Si_2を用いて測定をおこなった。その結果、この1段断熱冷却装置では10^<-3>K以下まで試料を冷却可能であり、また静磁化測定は現在のところ0.1φ_0の精度で測定可能であることを確認した。しかし、1K以下で測定磁場を変更できるように、磁化測定装置の検出部の磁気シールドにはチタニウム円筒を用いたが、臨界磁場が小さいため十分シールド効果が得られず、断熱消磁による外部磁場の擾乱によって測定が困難になることが判明した。また実験空間を広く取るために、磁化測定装置と温度計を別のフランジに設置したが、両者の熱接触が悪く10^<-3>K以下では、正確な温度測定が難しいことが明らかになった。これらの点を考慮して、磁気シールドの材質をニオブに、温度計と測定装置の位置の変更等を行い、現在もさらに研究を進めているが、本課題の目標である、冷却装置の製作・測定装置の基礎開発はほぼ達成された。
