本年度は,金沢市で湛水休耕田の炭素・窒素動態の解析を、つくば市で水田の炭素動態解析を行い比較した。休耕田の一次生産量として500gm^<-2>y^<-1>の値を得た(水田の約7割)。また,水田では作物を系外へ持ち出すため,土壌中の炭素は保持あるいは若干減少するのに対し,休耕田では炭素が蓄積する(金沢で100gm^<-2>y^<-1>)ことが明らかとなった。また,水田・湛水休耕田系での既往のデータと本研究の結果を整理し,これらの系での面積あたりに期待できる窒素除去速度を明らかにした。炭素固定量,分解量からから窒素除去量の限界について考察を加えた。また,表面流方式より浸透流方式の方が高い窒素除去能が期待できることが明らかとなった。また,静岡県で茶畑から流出する窒素を下流の水田で除去する実証実験を行ったが,水田群で,茶畑からでる窒素負荷量の約7%を除去できた。休耕田にすることにより年間を通じての除去が期待できる。
