分析のデータを得るために、各国をそれぞれ1つの単位として、(1)社会移動研究におけるデータ(移動率、移動行列、職業分布、等)、(2)世界銀行、ILO等の経済・労働に関する社会指標データ(賃金、国民所得、福祉支出、等)、(3)政治学の分野で近年蓄積が進んだ政治的社会指標データ(政治的安定性、民主化レベル、等)の3種類のデータについて資料を収集し、コンピューターに入力した。これまで、SPSSやSASを用い、回帰モデル等により基本的な分析を行った。従来の研究においても産業化命題の理論的・経験的両面から問題点が指摘されてきたが、この研究はそれを裏付け、同時に新たな知見も見出された。社会移動は、先進産業国のみを取上げても、社会経済的条件により大きく規定される。産業化を1次元的に捉えれば説明力は弱いが、産業化を支える社会的下位要因に分解して経済的・政治的側面も含む諸要因から多元的にとらえれば、各国の社会移動の多様化をある程度説明できる。産業化と社会移動の間の、相互に促進しあう双方向の因果関係については、LISRELモデルにより試行段階であるが、小規模のモデルからだけでも予測した因果関係がみられた。産業化では説明できない国家間の差異を産みだす構造として、教育・所得再分配などの社会制度的な側面を検討する必要がここまでの研究から示唆された。今後、引続きこれらの要因を変数としてデータに加え、分析を進める予定である。
