平成21年度の研究では、ロジウム原子間に二重結合もつ二核錯体[(RhCp^*)_2(μ-CH_2)_2](1,Cp^*=η^5-C_5Me_5)を合成し、アルコールに対する反応性をイリジウム二核錯体[(IrCp^*)_2(μ-CH_2)_2]の場合と比較検討した。ロジウム錯体の場合は反応がきわめて早く進行するが、水素引き抜き反応のみならず副反応や錯体の分解も生じていることが分かった。そのためイリジウム錯体の反応系に絞って研究を行い、以下のことを明らかにした。(1)昨年度と同様、種々の重メタノール((CD_3OD,CD_3OH,CH_3OD))を用いたラベリング実験を行い、μ-CH_2基の水素が重水素と置換されていることを見いだした。このことを手がかりにアルデヒド生成機構を詳細に検討した結果、イリジウム原子によるアルコールの水素引き抜き、μ-CH_2基への水素移譲を伴うアルデヒド生成という機構を明らかにした。(2)一級アルコールおよび二級アルコールとの反応錯体1がメタノール以外の他の一級アルコールのエタノール、n-プロパノールおよびベンジルアルコールとの反応でも同様にアルデヒドおよびジヒドリド錯体を生成することを確認した。電子スペクトルおよび^1H NMR等の分光学的手段を用いて、その反応の速度論的解析を行った。
