本総合研究(B)は、近年わが国で急速に発展してきた、昆虫の神経ペプチドホルモンの研究を飛躍的に発展させるべく、重点領域研究として申請するための準備を目的として発足されたものである。このために、3回の全体会議および5回の研究打合せ会議をもった。全体会議は、第1回会議を平成4年6月12日〜14日(東京)、第2回会議を9月25日〜27日(東京)、第3回会議を11月26日〜29日(東京)で催した。第1回会議では、各分担者の最近の研究紹介と以後の進行について議論した。第2回会議では、これからの共同研究の可能性と、現在可能な緊急課題を中心に議論した。第3回会議では重点領域研究申請の具体的方向性を論じるとともに、シンポジウム「昆虫神経ペプチドの構造、機能および動態」を、東京大学の鈴木昭憲教授を代表とする特別推進研究班と合同で開催し、本研究班以外の研究者の意見も広く取り入れる機会をもった。この後、これまでの議論を踏まえて、桜井、長澤、山下、片岡を中心に、重点領域研究の申請書の作成にあたった。このための研究打ち合せ会議は、平成4年9月4日〜7日(東京)、12月22日〜23日(名古屋)、平成5年1月22日〜25日(名古屋)、3月6日〜7日(名古屋)で行い、最終的には、桜井を申請代表者とした平成6年度発足重点領域研究「昆虫の神経ペプチドホルモンの分子特性を変態統御」の申請をするに至った。
