• Note (General): 日本原子力研究開発機構東濃地科学センターでは、「地層処分技術に関する研究開発」のうち深地層の科学的研究(地層科学研究)の一環として、結晶質岩(花崗岩)を主な対象とした超深地層研究所計画を進めている。超深地層研究所計画は、「深部地質環境の調査・解析・評価技術の基盤の整備」及び「深地層における工学技術の基盤の整備」を全体目標として定め、「第1段階;地表からの調査予測研究段階」、「第2段階;研究坑道の掘削を伴う研究段階」、「第3段階;研究坑道を利用した研究段階」の3段階に区分して調査研究を進めている。本稿では、深度500mの研究坑道掘削終了までの「第2段階;研究坑道の掘削を伴う研究段階」における調査研究の成果や、その後の解析評価を通じて得られた成果を取りまとめている。第2段階では、第1段階において実施した調査・解析・評価手法の妥当性を確認するとともに、第2段階において地質環境を段階的に調査・評価するための体系的な方法論を整備した。さらに、地下施設の設計・施工に関して、研究坑道の施工・維持・管理に関わる工学技術の有効性を確認した。; Tono Geoscience Center (TGC) of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) is being performed Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU) Project, which is a broad scientific study of the deep geological environment as a basis of research and development for geological disposal of nuclear wastes, in order to establish comprehensive techniques for the investigation, analysis and assessment of the deep geological environment in fractured crystalline rock. The MIU Project has three overlapping phases: Surface-based Investigation phase (Phase I), Construction phase (Phase II), and Operation phase (Phase III). The project goals of the MIU Project from Phase I through to Phase III are: (1) to establish techniques for investigation, analysis and assessment of the deep geological environment, and (2) to develop a range of engineering for deep underground application. This report summarizes the results of geoscientific study on Phase II to 500m depth. During Construction phase, we have evaluated of adequacy of techniques for investigation, analysis and assessment of the deep geological environment on Surface-based Investigation phase, and have established systematic methodology for stepwise investigation and evaluation of the geological environment on Construction phase. Further, with respect to design and construction of underground facilities, it was confirmed the validity of the engineering involved in the construction, maintenance and management of underground facilities.
