• Note (General): Beryllium has been used as the neutron reflector in the Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR). A beryllium frame is arranged in the JMTR core and the frame consists of 3 sections (North, East and West). Each section has 7 stories of the beryllium blocks. Each block is connected by the aluminum joints. The capsule or the beryllium plug is located in the inside of the beryllium frame. The first criticality achieved in 1968 and the frame has been replaced 6 times and now the 7th frame is being manufactured. The replacement is planned to be done in the spring of 2010. The design has been modified to decrease the swelling camber and the lifetime has been improved. The manufacturing procedure is severely controlled to assure the quality. The chemical composition must be specified to minimize the swelling and radiation. The machining procedure is highly controlled because beryllium is very brittle. And the environmental control is also important, because the beryllium is a toxic material.; JMTRでは、中性子反射体枠としてベリリウムが使用されている。ベリリウム枠は、JMTR炉心部に3セクション(北,東及び西)で配置され、各セクションは7段のベリリウムブロックから構成されている。各ブロックはアルミニウム製ジョイントで結合され、キャプセルやベリリウムプラグが枠内側に装荷されている。1968年に初臨界を達成してから、これまでに6回ベリリウム枠が取り替えられ、現在、7番目のベリリウム枠を製作している。交換は、2010年春に計画されている。ベリリウム枠の設計では、スウェリングによる曲がりを少なくするように変更され、寿命が改善された。製作手順は、品質を保証するために厳しく制御されている。スウェリングと放射化を最小限にするために化学組成を指定しなければならない。ベリリウムはとても脆いので、機械加工手順は注意深く制御されている。また、ベリリウムは毒性の材料なので、製作環境の制御も重要である。
