Note (General): ポリエチレン(PE)を真空中で$\gamma$線照射すると、水素ガスが発生し、その量は全発生ガスの99\%を越え、線量にほぼ比例している。しかし線量が大きくなると、徐々に比例関係からずれて飽和する傾向を示す。この定量的な関係をPEに生成する2重結合による放射線分解の保護効果のモデルで解析した。超高分子量PEは水素ガス発生の割合がより高く、かつ再現性が高いことから、$\gamma$線の線量計に応用できる。数kGyから約10MGyの広い線量範囲に渡り、99\%の精度で計測できる。
