• Note (General): リチウムは沸点が1317$^{\circ}C$と多角、比重は小さく(600$^{\circ}C$で0.47)、比熱が大きい(1cal/g/$^{\circ}C$)ため、最良の冷却材の一つである。このリチウムの特性を最大限利用し、例えばリチウムを冷却材とした高速炉の開発ができれば、原子炉の熱効率を飛躍的に高めることができる等の効果が期待できる。ここでは、このリチウムについて、その主要な性質を述べるとともに、リチウムを扱う上で必要と考えられるリチウムの反応や燃焼、消化特性に関して試験を行った結果について照会する。試験はナトリウムとの比較でも行ったが、両者の主な違いは、リチウムの水との反応がナトリウムに比べておだやかで、爆発的でないこと、ナトリウムに比べ発火しにくいが、発火した場合はより高温になり、燃焼時間も長い等である。; Lithium is one of goodcoolants because of high boiling point (1317$^{\circ}$C), small specific gravity (0.47 at 600$^{\circ}$C) and large specific heat (1cal/g/$^{\circ}$C). Therefore if lithium will be used in fast reactor for coolant, the heat efficiency of reactor will largely increase. Here the fundamental properties of lithium and the results of examination on chemical reaction, combustion and extinction are shown. These examinations were also carried out on sodium to compare with lithium. The differences between both are that lithium reacts more moderately with water, not explosive, and is not combustible but after ignition burns at higher temperature and longer.
