• Note (General): 目的高速炉の飛躍的な高性能化を最終目的とした新素材の創製のためフロンティア材料研究の一環として,制御棒材料として使用される中性子吸収材の長寿命化のため,従来使用されてきたB4Cよりも優れた特性を有する高性能制御材を創製する。試験方法 高性能制御材の候補材として,B4C,金属複合材(B4C/Ni,B4C/2r,B4C/Mo,B4C/Cu-Ni),B4C以外のホウ素系化合物(EuB6,SiB6,TiB2)およびB4C/SiCウイスカーを研究対象とし,これらの材料のペレット製造プロセスの開発のため,焼結温度,保持時間,荷重などのプロセス条件の最適化を行うとともに,試作ペレットの組織観察,組成・構造解析,元素分布,硬さ,熱伝導率および耐熱衝撃特性の評価を行ない,従来材であるB4Cの特性と比較した。試験結果(1)総合評価の結果,B4C/Cu-Ni系複合材(サーメット)$>$B4C/Mo$>$B4C/SiCウイスカー$>$B4C/Zr系の順でB4Cよりも優れた特性を示すことが明らかとなった。(2)B4C/Cu-Ni系複合材(サーメット)が試作材中で最も良好な性能を示し,照射中のクラック防止及びACMI発生時のペレットクリープを期待できることが分かった。(3)B4C/Cu-Ni系複合材に次ぐ性能を発揮したB4C/Mo系およびB4C/Zr系複合材については,Mo系はZr系に比べて耐熱衝撃性に優れ,Zr系は熱伝導率に優れている。(4)B4C/SiCウイスカー複合材はB4Cより優れた耐熱衝撃性を示した。(5)ホウ素化合物のうち,SiB6配合材(組成上はSiB14とSiの複合材)は熱伝導率が最も低かったが,B4Cより優れた耐熱衝撃性を示した。TiB2は最も高い熱伝導率を示したが,B4Cに比べてクラック防止性能の大きな向上は認められなかった。EuB6はB4Cよりクラックを発生しやすかった。結論 これまでの研究の結果,B4Cより長寿命な高性能制御材を創製する見通しが得られた。さらに高性能制御材に関する核特性から見た炉内での適用性および今後の研究課題を明らかにした。これらの成果が得られたことから,本研究テーマは燃料材料開発部に移管された。; [Purpose]To creatc high performancc neutron absorbing materials possessing more excellent properties than conventional B$_{4}$C to prolong the life of control rod material, as one of the Frontier Research Thema to create new materials by which superior performance will be attained on fast reactors. [Experimental method] B$_{4}$C/Metal composites(B$_{4}$C/Ni, B$_{4}$C/Zr, B$_{4}$C/Mo, B$_{4}$C/Cu-Ni), borides (EuB$_{6}$, SiB$_{6}$, TiB$_{2}$) and B$_{4}$C/SiC whisker have been investigated as the candidates or high performance neutron absorbing matelials. Sintering conditions of temperature, Lime and load have heen optimized to develop the manufacturing process of pellets made of these materials. Microstructure, crystal structure, element distribution, microhardness, thermal conductivity and unti-thermal shock properties have been evaluated on trially manufactured pellets. These properties have been compared with those or B$_{4}$C. [Test results] (1)As results or overall cvaluations, the following materials havc showed more excellent properties than B$_{4}$C by the order of B$_{4}$C/Cu-Ni$>$B$_{4}$C/Mo$>$B$_{4}$C/SiC whisker $>$B$_{4}$C/Zr. (2)B$_{4}$C/Cu-Ni has showed the most cxcellent properties among tested materials. It has been clarified that prevention or crack generation during irradiation and pellet creep at the event of ACMI could be expected on this material. (3)On B$_{4}$C/Mo and B$_{4}$C/Zr which have showed excellent properties next to B$_{4}$C/Cu-Ni, B$_{4}$C/Mo has possessed superior unti-thermal shock property to B$_{4}$C/Zr, on the other hand B$_{4}$C/Zr has possessed superior thermal conductivity to B$_{4}$C/Mo. (4)B$_{4}$C/SiC whisker has showed more cxcellent unti-thermal shock property than B$_{4}$C. (5)SiB$_{6}$ has possessed the lowest thermal conductivity among tested materials, but showed more cxcellent unti-thermal shock property than B$_{4}$C.
