将来的な医療応用を見据え、生体力学現象の数値計算手法の開発研究を進めている。連続体レベルでの臓器・血管・血球の動力学を、流体・構造・膜連成問題として扱う。設計図の存在しない人体を対象とするため、形状が複雑で、柔軟という生体組織の特徴に適した数値手法が望まく、本研究では、医療画像から得られるボクセルデータを形状表現に用いて、メッシュ生成の過程を必要としない連成法を開発してきた。この方法は、複雑な境界形状を持つ問題の扱いや、大規模並列計算機の有効活用を容易にするという特徴がある。計算対象として血流を取り上げ、血管手術の効果や、血栓形成に至る過程を予測する計算事例を紹介する。医療現場へのシミュレーションの普及の観点から、データ同化技術に対する期待を述べる。
