Note (General): わが国の宇宙実験の推進、有人宇宙技術の習得、宇宙実験機器の開発と運用、国際協力の推進などを目的として計画された標記プロジェクトの概要について報告した。テーマの募集は1979年に開始され最終的に1984年に材料系22テーマ、ライフサイエンス系12テーマが採用された。さらにライフサイエンス系として飛行士の健康管理を実施することが事業団(NASDA)の業務として加えられた。飛行士の選定は1984年に1次選抜が始まり、1985年の4次において最終的に4名が決定した。本プロジェクトを遂行するためにNASDAは連続加熱型電気炉、高温加熱型電気炉、温度勾配型電気炉、イメージ炉、音波浮遊炉、および電気泳動装置など20の装置を開発した。これらの機器に加えて飛行中はNASAの機材:身体機能測定装置および尿監視システムなどを借用し、わが国の実験テーマを実施した。このプロジェクトは1992年9月12日に打ち上げられ、9月20日に帰還した。本報告書は主として宇宙実験の科学的成果を総合的にまとめたもので、最初の部分にプロジェクトの特記事項をまとめ、そのあとライフサイエンス実験、材料実験に分けて研究者の報告を集大成した。
The Fuwatto '92 space experiments for promoting Japanese space experiments, learning manned spaceship technology, developing and operating space experimental instruments, and promoting international cooperation were reported. The following topics were dealt with: (1) endocrine and metabolic changes of payload specialist; (2) posture and movement of fish; (3) separation of biogenic materials; (4) visual stability; (5) crystal growth of enzymes; (6) ultrastructure and function of cultured cells; (7) response to plant cells; (8) chick embryo cartilage and bone formation; (9) biological effect; (10) radiation protection technology; (11) manual control experiments; (12) circadian rhythm; and (13) Japanese payload specialist.
