• Note (General): この実験の目的は、液相焼結の過程における固相粒子の挙動および焼結の機構を明らかにすることである。液相焼結とは、固相と液相が共存する状態で行われる焼結法であるが、一般に地上において液相焼結を行うと、重力の影響によって固相物質と液相物質の密度の差による偏析などの現象を生じやすく、実験結果と理論を比較することが難しい。重力の影響の少ない宇宙環境で実験を行うことによって、液相焼結における固相粒子の挙動をより正確に解明することが可能であると考えられる。宇宙実験用として、WとNiの粉末を3、7、15、20、30mass%Niの割合に混合した5種類の粉末を円柱状に圧縮成形した試料を2組作り、微小重力環境において、1500度Cでそれぞれ60minおよび180minの焼結を行うことを計画した。宇宙実験は、(M12-A)実験として、1組の試料について60minの焼結を行い、そのつぎに(M12-B)実験として、もう1組の試料の180minの焼結を行うという予定であったが、今回行われた宇宙実験期間中にスペースシャトル内のNo.10ラックにトラブルが生じたために、予定の実験計画が変更された。最初に行われることになっていた(M12-A)実験がこのトラブルのために延期となりスキップされて、(M-12B)実験の方が予定通りに行われた。(M-12A)実験は、続いてつぎの日に行われた。しかし、宇宙実験中に記録された各種のデータを解析した結果、どちらの実験も内容的には予定された計画とあまり差がなく進行したことが確認された。宇宙実験終了後返却された試料について、各種の測定を行った。焼結終了後の試験片の形状は、焼結時に試験片内に存在する液相の量によって差があり、3%および7%Niの試験片は焼結後も最初の円柱状の形状を保ったが、15%、20%および30%Niの試験片は、焼結によって円柱形から球形に変化した。これらの球形になった試験片は、直径の値の方向による差がほとんどなく、真球に近い形であるということが確認された。このような実験結果から、液体と微細な固相粒子の混合物は、試験片の表面に連続した液体の層が形成されると、表面張力の作用によって微小重力下では液体と全く同様な挙動を示す、ということが明らかにされた。焼結時間が長くなると、試験片の形状に変化が生じ、球状の形がゆがんでくるとともに、固相粒子が凝集する傾向があるということが認められた。この他にも解析はなお進行中である。; The object of this study is to elucidate the behavior of solid phase particles during process of liquid phase sintering and the sintering mechanism. Liquid sintering is the sintering method promoted under coexistence of solid phase and liquid phase. Generally, performing liquid phase sintering on ground surface, it is difficult to compare the experimental results with theoretical ones, because the phenomena such as segregation by difference of density between solid phase materials and liquid phase materials due to influence of gravity are easy to cause. It is expected to become possible to elucidate more precisely the behavior of solid phase particles during liquid phase sintering by performing experiments in space environment with little influence of gravity. Sintering was planned for two types of samples which cylindrically conducted compression molding on 5 kinds of powders of W and Ni mixed at rate of 3, 7, 15, 20 and 30 mass percent Ni under microgravity and at 1,500 C for the duration of 60 and 180 min, respectively. Although the experiments in space was scheduled to sinter for 60 min on one type of samples (named (M12-A) experiment) and for 180 min on the other type of samples (named (M12-B) experiment), the scheduled experimental plans was altered because of the trouble of No.10 rack in the space shuttle during this experiment in space. (M12-A) experiment to be carried out was postponed due to the above mentioned trouble and skipped later, but (M12-B) experiment was performed as prearranged. (M12-A) experiment was conducted next day. It was confirmed from analysis of the various results recorded during the experiments in space that contents of both experiments were not much different from the scheduled plan. Various measurements were carried out for samples recovered after completion of space experiment. Shapes of samples after completion of sintering depended on the volume of liquid phase existing in samples at the time of sintering. However, 3 percent Ni and 7 percent Ni samples maintained the initial cylindrical shape after sintering, shapes of 15, 20 and 30 percent Ni samples turned from cylinder to sphere by sintering. It was confirmed that diameter of these spherical samples did not depend on direction of measurement and their shape was almost complete sphere. From the above experimental results, it was made clear that liquid-fine solid phase particles mixture showed same behavior as liquid due to surface tension under microgravity environment when continuous liquid layer was formed on surface of samples. Long sintering time resulted distortion of sphere following shape variation of samples together with tendency of aggregation of solid phase particles.
