Note (General)
The object of this experiment is to study behavior of droplets floating in an acoustic resonant chamber. The triaxial acoustic resonant chamber has functions possible to conduct rotation, vibration and compression of the floated droplets without contact by acoustic wave, in addition to non contact floating of droplets. Some theoretical investigations and ground surface experiments were performed, prior to space experiments in the space shuttle (M-15: Liquid Drop Facility (LDF), STS 47). Although a series of experiments to observe various behavior of droplets in the triaxial acoustic resonant chamber was scheduled, the droplets had split due to over ascending of sound pressure at the time of separation of droplets in the first stage of experiments. Since a part of split droplets attached to one of three outlets of sound fixed in the resonant chamber, one of three axes of the resonant chamber was impossible to generate both sound pressure and resonance later. However, the experimental data on compression effect of droplets by acoustic emission pressure were little, the data on big size droplets not obtained in ground surface experiments were collected. This is the comprehensive report on the results of theoretical investigations, ground surface experiments and (M-15) space experiments performed by the authors until now.
