A hypersonic flight experiment of a gliding vehicle called HYFLEX (Hypersonic Flight Experiment) is being prepared as a cooperative project by NAL (National Aerospace Laboratory) and The National Space Development Agency of Japan. The concept of the HYFLEX, defined as the base of preliminary design, is introduced in the present paper.
