This paper presents experimental results of the effects of cavity bleed and its configuration on the supersonic internal flow field and the aerodynamic characteristics. The experiments were conducted in the supersonic heat transfer test facility of NAL (National Aerospace Laboratory) using the partial model to simulate the supersonic internal compression passage of the mixed compression air-intake. The pressure recovery characteristics of five cavity configurations was obtained for the bleed mass flow rates. It was found that the cavity bleed was effective for the starting of the air-intake but the excessive cavity bleed aggravated the pressure recovery. The cavity configuration affected the characteristics of the pressure in the cavity bleed plenum for the bleed mass flow rates. Therefore, the optimum bleed mass flow rates for the maximum pressure recovery depended on the cavity configuration.
