Note (General): この資料は、本来宇宙空間で作動するキセノンイオンエンジンを地上設備において運転、評価するために必要な知識と考えをまとめたものである。宇宙空間のおける運転はここでは基本的に考慮外であるが、必要と思われる知識については触れてある。最初に運転に必要な装置類について述べる。装置類は大きく分けると真空系、電源系、推進剤供給系に分類され、各装置および構成部品の選定法あるいは設計法、性能確認法および使用法について述べる。次にイオンエンジンを運転するまでに必要な手順と、運転に際して心掛けなければならない注意事項について述べ、これで一応性能評価のための基本的運転はできる。この後耐久性評価のために必要な長時間運転と無人運転に関する知識について触れる。評価の部分では、単純な性能評価からイオンビームの特性評価や環境汚染の評価について述べる。実際に当所で行われた試験については、できるだけ細かいノウハウまで載せるように努めたが、そうでないものについては考え方と参考文献を示すに留めた。
Knowledge for operating and evaluating ion thrusters on the ground is described. Operation in space is not taken into consideration, but is commented upon where required. Firstly facilities indispensable to operation are described. These are classified into a vacuum system, power processing system and propellant feeding system; and how to choose or design each system or its parts, how to evaluate the systems and how to operate them are also described. Next preoperation procedures and points to keep in mind when operating ion thrusters are described. Following this readers will be able to operate ion thrusters for the purpose of simple performance evaluation. Information is also provided on operation of thrusters over long periods of time and automatic operations. In terms of evaluation, simple performance evaluation, ion beam evaluation and contamination evaluation are described. The authors have endeavored to provide details on the basis of their own experience, and to present theories and list references related to other information available.
