Note (General)
An elastic pitching mode may be involved in the dynamic characteristics of the launching configuration of a reentry winged space vehicle attached to a rocket. This type of mode should be taken into consideration for flutter analysis, because flutter can be critical in the launch phase. In this experiment a sting support system with controllable pitching rigidity was built and tested in a transonic wind tunnel, resulting in a pitching mode flutter. This flutter mode was also recognized in flutter analysis using the DPM (Doublet-Point Method). It was also found that in the experiments the flutter occurred at low dynamic pressure in antisymmetric mode.
