Note (General): The task of aircraft design often favours a robust, low-cost computational method rather than a sophisticated one. Examples of such engineering methods currently in use at Kawasaki Heavy Industries are described in this paper. Included are a viscous-inviscid coupling procedure for a 2-D airfoil at high angle of attack in incompressible flow, a vortex-lattice procedure for not-so-slender wings, and extensions of the FLO22 code so as to incorporate the fuselage- and fluid-viscosity effects.
