Note (General): A method for calculating a complete boundary layer over an incompressible, two-dimensional airfoil with suction was developed and has been used to make a comparative study of various design concepts of laminar flow control airfoils. The method consists of the inviscid flow calulation by the vortex singularity method and of the laminar, transitional and turbulent boundary layer calculations by Keller’s box scheme. The transition point was predicted by Michel’s criterion, and for a turbulent flow, Cebeci-Smith’s algebraic turbulence model was used. The method can treat both continuous and discrete suction modes. Various design concepts have been successfully studied by the method, which has proved that the method is a useful tool in a parametric study of laminar flow control airfoil design.
