Note (General): Recent high temperature rise combustor research requires very reliable temperature measurement at the exit plane of the combustor. Error evaluation was made here for some practical thermocouple rakes which suffer conductive and rediative effects simultaneously. One of the rakes was specially fabricated from platinum sheathed thermocouples to cope with high temperature and humid environments. The probes were tested in a water cooled duct while passing a hot burning gas through the duct. The error analysis shows that a non-dimesional parameter based on the temperature differences between the gas and the wall describes the error magnitude well. The increased Reynolds number of the main flow decreases the error but the wall radiation deviates the value by the third power of the main stream temperature.
