Note (General): An Earth sensor utilizing infrared (IR) horizon radiation is one of the fundamental attitude sensors for three-axis attitude stabilized spacecraft. The attitude measurement accuracy of this type of sensor greately depends on the variation of the IR radiation magnitude and characteristics, which are determined by upper atmosphere meteorological conditions. This paper presents the IR radiation measurement results from a TT-500A sounding rocket performed in August, 1983, together with the results of the preliminary study.
