Note (General): 都市部では、夜間でも空が明るく暗い星が見えない“光害”という問題がある。この影響で星がどれだけ見えるかを直接示すものは、観察できる最も暗い星の等級を示す限界等級と呼ばれる指標である。しかし、限界等級を知るためには最も暗い星を決定し、さらにその等級を調べる必要があり簡単ではない。そこで我々は、恒星データベースとパターンマッチングを利用した限界等級決定アプリケーションを開発した。ある程度の範囲を撮影した写真を入力するだけでその条件における限界等級が算出されるものである。将来的には、スマートフォン搭載カメラとの連携により、空間的にも時間的にもきめ細かなサンプルが得られ、この情報を集約することで天体観察に適した場所を即時に調べることが可能となる。
In urban areas, we cannot watch faint stars due to ''light pollution'' with artificial light. The influence of light pollution is indicated by limiting magnitude, which is equivalent to apparent magnitude of the faintest observable star. It is difficult to evaluate limiting magnitude, because we must identify the faintest star and lookup the magnitude of the object. We developed limiting magnitude determination application to make easier to evaluate limiting magnitude. The software specifies observed field of input image by using pattern matching method, and investigate the magnitude of the faintest star by comparison with a star catalog database. We will be able to obtain light pollution map with fine spacing and fine frequency by smartphone-equipped camera. Then it will be possible to find a suitable place for observation by taking into account the latest condition of night sky.
