角運動量は,非常に重要な物理量の一つであるが,同時に難解な(と思われている)物理量である。角運動量について書かれた本は数多いが,R. N. Zare, Angular Momentum (Wiley, 1988)やA. R. Edmonds, Angular Momentum in Quantum Mechanics (Princeton, 1974)のような良書が日本語の成書に見あたらないのは残念なことである。本monographでは,これらの成書の展開に従って,電子スピン関数をはじめ角運動量の合成におけるClebsch-Gordan係数の意味と具体的な決定法を紹介し,角運動量固有関数の形成およびClebsch-Gordanの計算にきわめて有効な「射影演算子」について解説する。
