Note (General): 本稿では、筆者が受けた看護基礎教育（1961－1975年頃）について、その時代の社会情勢・看護界の状況・看護教育改革、筆者の受けた看護基礎教育での出来事などを振り返り、その頃の教育（主に制度改革）が現在の看護基礎教育に寄与したことを考察するとともに、現在の看護基礎教育に残したかったことは何かについて私見をのべることとした。寄与したことは、看護労働力確保のための制度改革を活発に行うとともに短大・大学化の推進により今日の大学化の基盤を作ったことである。また、1967年の指定規則の改正は、それまで医学モデルに即した科目編成であった教育科目・内容を看護モデルに改正し、職業教育であった看護基礎教育を、看護学教育へと転換させるための基盤となったことである。そして、その頃の看護基礎教育で筆者が残したかったことは、「ゆとり」と「自由」であった。
