Note (General): 『春秋左氏伝』昭公十一年の「末大必折、尾大不悼。」は、下層の勢力が増大すると、制御できない状況になることの比喩に用いるが、「末大必折」は樹は梢が幹よりも大きくなると折れる、「尾大不神」は尾が大きくなると自由に振れないの意で、両句を書いてもよかったが、本末の議論なら「末大必折」が分かりいいと思ってこの句だけにした。正方形に二字二字に布置しようかとも思ったが、平板になるように思われ、最初から一字二字一字の三行に布置した。予想に反して生じた迷いとその脱却など、字句の選定、執筆から完成までの過程を思い返しながら述べた。
