[研究概要] ミリ波を用いたレーダーは、マイクロ波と比較して、波長が短いために空間分解能が高いことが特徴である。雲中の氷水粒子の観測においては、これに加えて、波長が短いために氷水粒子の散乱効率が飛躍的に高くなることにより、高感度となることが特徴である。そこで我々は、ミリ波レーダーを利用した雲中の氷水粒子観測用装置の設計と開発を行った。本装置では、パルスレーダーでなくFM-CW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave）方式を採用し、比較的低い出力で高感度が得られることを目指した。装置はほぼ完成し、安定性や感度の試験を経て、現在調整作業および試験観測を行っている。これらの試験観測を通じて、所期の安定性と感度がほぼ実現されていることが確認できた。
