[研究概要] 人為の影響を全く受けない条件下では、土地特有の気候に影響を受けた極相（climatic climax）の植生が成立する。人為的影響によって植生が代償植生に変わり、さらに、開発によって多種多様な用途別の景観（農林業地域、村落、都市）が成立し、これらの変還を景観変遷系列（landscape transformation sere(sequence）：LTS）と呼ぶ。本研究では、衛星リモートセンシングデータを利用して、マルチスケールな植生図および土地被覆図を作成し、極相植生からの変遷過程（LTS）で、潜在的な極相植生と人為による偏向過程を明らかにし、その土地に合った持続的な土地利用の在り方を検討する。これまでの開発によって、景観や環境が大きく改変され、また、災害の危険性が高い場所でも人間活動が展開されるようになった。このため、地域の景観・環境保全や防災対策を一層推進していくには、地域の景観の変還を明らかにした上で、様々な対応を取る必要がある。我々が接する植生（現存植生）のほとんどは伐採・植林・放牧・汚染などによる人聞の干渉を受けて形成されている（代償植生）。千葉県における里山など二次的な自然を保全する方策を検討し、持続的な環境利用の在り方を提示するために都市環境変化が景観、生態系などに及lます影響を、フィールド調査、衛星計測デー夕、空中写真、地理情報システム（GIS）を利用したマルチスケールでの解析手法を確立する。
