[はじめに]植物の栄養成長と抽苔・開花などの生殖成長に共に影響を及ぼす明期時間を、自然光温室において調節することは困難である。他方、人工光を用いる閉鎖型苗生産システムにおいては、明期時間、光質、光強度等の光環境のみならず、他の環境要因も正確に調節できる。一般に、ホウレンソウは、長日・高温下で抽苔し、商品価値を失う。筆者らは、人工光下で短日・低温にして育苗すると、長日条件下の自然光温室で定植・栽培しても収穫までは抽苔しないことを示した(Chun et al., 1998)。本報では、育苗時の明期時間が、育苗時および収穫時の成長および抽苔に及ぼす影響を調べた。
