[はじめに]現在，筆者らは，閉鎖型苗生産システム（以下，閉鎖型システム）の開発およびその利用に関する研究を行っている．ここで，閉鎖型システムとは，日射に不透明な断熱壁で囲まれ，システム内外間のエネルギおよび物質輸送が抑制もしくは制御された空間内において，人工光源を用いて苗を育成するシステムである．閉鎖型システムでは，苗が蒸発散した水を容易に回収・再利用できることが予想され，それゆえ，温室などの開放型苗生産システム（以下，開放型システム）と比べて，苗育成にかかわる水消費量を削減できると考えられる．本実験では，ハクサイセル成型苗育成時における閉鎖型および開放型システムの水収支の実態を把握し，両システムの水利用効率および苗育成にかかわる水消費量を比較した．
