[ABSTRACT] Volcanic clouds in Kyushu, Japan in NOAA/AVHRR and other satellite images were analyzed during August-November 1989 when the air pollutants concentration measurement was carried out at the Unzen-Nodake(1142m). The results confirm that high concentration events of SO_2 were frequently detected because of the long-range transport of volcanic gas from the Aso and Sakurajima Volcanoes. Detectability of very thin clouds and aerosol from volcanoes are also discussed.
