幼少期の養育環境の重要性が指摘され、虐待やいじめなどのストレスは、脳の発達を阻害し、その後の心身の影響にも影響を及ぼすことが報告されている。筆者は、心理的ストレスには大別してアスリート型ストレスと、いじめ型ストレスの2種類があり、子どもにとって適切なストレスと発達を阻害するストレスの2つが存在すると考えている。自らが挑戦することによるアスリート型ストレスには、果敢に挑戦させる環境を設定し、子どもたちに乗り越えさせる体験を十分させることが重要と考える。一方、いじめ型ストレスには、教師や保護者は適切に回避・軽減できる社会的環境を整備しておく必要があろう。このように、ストレスに対して発達段階や状況に応じた適切な対応が求められる。そのためには、教師や保護者自身がストレスのメカニズムをよく理解し、関わり方について検討しておく必要があると考える。
