Note (General): It is usually accepted that steel parts surface hardened by induction heating generally exhibit less total distortion and distortions of racks are often caused for hardening of their tooth surface only. In this report, the result of several experiments on the racks generated by quenching transformation and thermal change are described. Racks of 1.5, 2.0 module and several sextional forms of 100 mm length are measured in detail. Materials of racks are 0.45 % carbon steels. Items of measurments are as follows: length, width, planeness of side surface, whole depth, thickness of tooth, pressure angle, undulation of tooth surface, transverse pitch error, over pine width.
