Note (General): 文部省は12月5日学校基本調査(53.5.1現在)の概要を公表した。それによれば大学・短大の合計の進学率(含浪人)は38.4%となり,昭和51年以来三年連続(-0.3,-0.7,-0.4%)のダウンで,終に32.8%となるまでに下り黄信号がついた。53年度の入学者総数は大学の425,718人(-2,694人)短大の181,181人(-2,043人)で合計606,899人となって前年比としては4,737人滅となった。なお今春(昭和53年)の新高卒の大学・短大の"志願率"も二年連続(-0.6,-1.2%)ダウンして,45.9%(男51.7%女40.2%)となったので"大学離れ"定着とか"大学離れ"ジワジワとかの見出しで一斉に報道された。以上は大学と短大を合せたものであったが,以下は短大のみに限って考へて見たい。53年度の短大の在学者総数の98.7%は短大本科生であり,本科生の計は375,825人でこれを100%とすれば私立の計は91.5%,女子の計は88.3%,私立の女子の計は83.3%となり,私立の女子の昼間の本科生でさえ51年79.7%,52年80.6%,53年は81.4%にまでに続伸した。従って私立の女子の昼間学生数は30万人を超えるに至った。反面夜間部と男子生ともに低調が続き,最低は国立・昼間・男子・716人で,次は国立・夜間・女子の1,256人である。これからは私立短大の水準と問題点につき各項にわたって考へて見たい。
