Nearly five hundred patents are annualy applied in this field, including those on the end products made of biodegradable materials, on biodegradable molding compositions, on biodegradable polymers, and on their monomer production. A method for the classification of patent applications in this field is proposed, and according to this clasification the recent trend in research and development for biodegradable materials is analyzed.
