This is a handwritten copy of Ryūkyūkoku Jiryaku written by Arai Hakuseki, who produced notable achievements in Ryukyuan studies, in 1711. It is a report on the affairs of Ryukyu, submitted to the then shogun Tokugawa Ienobu. The contents concern Ryukyuan envoys sent to China, Ryukyu's official ranks, Ryukyu as seen in the records of foreign countries, etc. A list of Ryukyu's place names and another article about official ranks are also included at the end of the book. There are some notes in red ink in the text. According to the book, those notes were written by SHISHIDO Sakari, a Japanese government official during the Meiji period and also a collector of classical books. A brief summary of this book can be found in Ryūkyū Shoshikō Sakamaki Shunzō cho (Seikatsu Bunka Kenkyūjo Nenpō, vol.2), edited and translated into Japanese by YOKOYAMA Manabu and published in 1988 (Or see the original Ryūkyū Shoshikō - Ryukyu: A Bibliographical Guide to Okinawan Studies, published in 1963, for English description). A transcription of the book into modern
Japanese (honkoku) can be found in the third volume of Arai Hakuseki Zenshū, published in 1906.
