- 明治７年（１８７４）２月に開拓使函館支庁が初めて刊行したもので、木版印刷による美 麗な実測図である。縮尺５千分の１の堂々たる図でもあり、函館山のケバ描写も美しい。 江戸期の市街地は山麓から港湾側に発展してきたのだが、本図では反対側の海岸線のほう にも市街地が延びつつあることがわかる。新しい公的機関がいくつも出現し、例をあげる と「開拓使庁・海関所・税関・貫目改所・馬車会所」があり、「英国商ブレキストン・英国 商トムソン」、台町には「外国墓」も見える。しかし、亀田方面には堀割（願乗寺川ともい う）以外は空白が目立っている。（高木崇世芝／文）
