Note (Content): Catalogue de l'exposition présentée au Musée de la Vie Romantique à Paris du 13 mars au 15 juillet 2012. Dans la première moitié du XIXe s., Paris a été la capitale du théâtre ; tous les genres, du vaudeville à l'opera seria, du mélodrame à la pantomime, s'y sont épanouis dans la plus grande concentration de salles existant alors en Europe. Alors que les influences les plus diverses, de Shakespeare à Goethe, de Byron à Victor Hugo, y forgeaient de nouveaux modèles, une étonnante effervescence intellectuelle y rassemblait les plus grands acteurs, Talma, Mars, Rachel, les compositeurs les plus célèbres, Rossini ou Meyerbeer, les divas les plus admirées, M. Malibran, M. Alboni, P. Viardot, les étoiles de la danse les plus adulées, M. Taglioni, F.Elssler ou C. Grisi, sans oublier le mime, J.-G. Deburau. Une centaine d'oeuvres provenant du musée Carnavalet, portraits, aquarelles, dessins, décors, études de costumes, souvenirs, rappellent cette intense créativité et évoquent les principales figures qui l'ont illustrée.
