Note (Content): Le kôdô, littéralement la voie des fragrances, est un art japonais unique au monde consistant à apprécier et célébrer les parfums des bois aromatiques précieux au cours d'une rencontre, mêlant combinaisons de senteurs et poésie. Comment comprendre qu'un tel art alliant sagacité olfactive et culture lettrée ait pu naître et se développer à partir de l'ère d'Edo en forgeant des catégories esthétiques très raffinées, alors que l'odorat est souvent considéré comme un sens ingrat et grossier? Le présent ouvrage vise à éclairer cette énigme et à élaborer une philosophie du kôdô qui en restitue l'esprit à travers l'histoire, en interrogeant ses soubassements métaphysiques et esthétiques.
