Die Arbeit verknüpft biographische Aspekte der Drucker mit ökonomischen Fragestellungen und kulturellen Rahmenbedingungen. Sie gelangt so zu aussagekräftigen Erkenntnissen über den Medienwandel in der Inkunabelzeit als einem komplexen Innovationsprozess, an dessen Ende die Ablösung der Handschrift durch den Buchdruck steht
