Rocky road
Note (General)"The aim of The Rocky Road is to provide an examination of the ongoing evolution of the culture of sport leading up to 1973, the year in which the completion of the National Stadium coincided with the creation of a new government statutory board--the SSC. The story incorporates the fragile beginnings and vulnerabilities of sport and recreation during the colonial period (1945-1959); during the Self-Government prelude (1959-1965) and during the initial phase of celebrated independence (1965-1973). In this way, the different priorities associated with sport are revealed. The Rocky Road reveals insights into the initial hesitancy to build a stadium capable of hosting international events. It also presents a documentation of changes in decision-making that concerned the status of sport itself within a growing society and for the various communities that are found there."--Page 11
