Osaka Castle
TOYOTOMI Hideyoshi built this castle on the site of Ishiyama Honganji Temple over a period of three years from 1583. It is one of the three most famous castles in Japan. The castle was destroyed during the Osaka Summer Campaign, but was later rebuilt by the Edo shogunate, and a shogunate official, the Osaka jodai, was placed in charge of the castle.
