      Users can view GSI maps and aerial photographs with a web browser. Users can view a variety of scale maps ranging from national maps of Japan all the way down to highly detailed maps delineating buildings. Map data available is in general of the latest version, it is not possible to view maps of the past; however, users can learn the latitude, longitude, and altitude of specific geographical points, and 1:25,000 scale map titles. In addition, there are copious types of aerial photographs and other thematic maps that can be displayed and overlapped with topographical maps.

      Users can browse the digital images of aerial photographs organized by the GSI. Users can select aerial photographs from a complete map of Japan, and search by address, latitude and longitude, the year taken, etc. Users can do similar searches about maps made by the GSI in the past, but deciphering the geographic names may prove difficult because of the low image resolution.

      Users can browse the digital images of aerial photographs taken by the Japan Coast Guard from 1992 to 2002. The regions covered mainly consist of Japanese coastal regions and port areas.

      This is a system that can display a variety of oceanic information in a single map. Users can browse information such as sociological intelligence (fishing rights, coastal preservation areas, etc.), maritime information (navigational beacons, sea routes, U.S. military exercise areas, sunken ship areas, etc.), and oceanic conditions (real time water temperature, ocean currents, depths, isobaths, etc.).

      Users can browse a variety of geological information on Japan including geological survey maps. In addition to browsing Japanese seamless geological survey maps (1:200,000 geological survey map) and digital images of geological survey maps on a scale of 1:50,000, a wide variety of maps other than geological survey maps are available such as mineral resource maps and active fault maps, etc.

    Users can purchase nautical charts from the Japan Nautical Chart Web Shop, and digital images of nautical charts made at the beginning of the Meiji era and catalogs of the old editions of nautical charts are available to the public on the Nautical Chart Archive page.

    Users can purchase not only topographical maps issued by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, thematic maps such as geological survey maps, paper printed maps such as antique map reproductions and residential maps, but also aerial photographs, land record data, and photographic data from the Japan Map Center Net Shopping page. On the color topographical map page users can even browse color 1:25,000 topographical maps of the entire nation of Japan.
