Local Ordinances in Prefectures

The PDOP Room holds a collection of local ordinances in force and prefectural gazettes in which local ordinances and rules appear from all 47 prefectures. Holdings of prefectural gazettes, however, are limited to post-war issues. (Only the gazette of the Tokyo Metropolis begins with prewar issues.)

The Department of Law and Policy, Kagoshima University, provides the Japanese Local Ordinance Database (in Japanese), which is a collection of local ordinances unique to each local government. Links to collections of local ordinances by local governments are provided on the "Yoyotei no Homu Page", which is operated by an individual (in Japanese).

The National Association of Chairpersons of City Councils holds almost all collections of local ordinances in force in cities, but they are not available to the general public.
