- Many theorists and researchers in voluntary organization study have emphasized only volunteers' altruistic disposition and management's instrumental roles. But volunteers' self-interested disposition must be watched more.<BR>In this article, the author points out the importance of voluntary organization's expressive roles and suggests that there is a "serious leisure perspective"in volunteering. From this leisure perspective, volunteering is seen as a process thus of career building for the object of something rewardable. This perspective is able to pick up the volunteer's participation process directly.<BR>In future, to study voluntary organizations' management as expressive role, analyses of the relation between a volunteer's committment to organization and a volunteer' s career building is needed.従来のボランタリーアソシエーション研究の多くは,社会問題解決のため特定の組織目標を効果的に遂行するボランティア団体の手段的な役割に注目し,かつ団体の理念実現を熱望する理念主義性の強いボランティア活動参加者像を暗黙の前提としてきた。しかし,ボランティア団体にはもう一つの役割,すなわち参加希望者に対して社会参加の機会を提供する表出的な役割があり,もっと多様なボランティア活動参加者像に目を向けるべきではないだろうか。<BR>本研究では,ボランティア団体の表出的な役割に注目した研究をめざし,ボランティア活動を余暇活動としてとらえるパースペクティブを採り上げた。余暇活動的視点に従って,ボランティア活動への参加を継続的に充足感を得るためのキャリアの探索と獲得の過程としてとらえることによって,従来はボランティア団体への関わりに関心が薄いとみられてきた周辺的なメンバー層を研究対象として積極的に採り上げることが可能となった。<BR>今後,参加メンバーに参加機会を提供する表出的役割の遂行を可能にするボランティア団体の組織運営の研究を深めるために,ボランティア団体への参加者の関わり方と,参加者がキャリアを蓄積していく過程とのつながりについてさらに分析が必要である。
