• Summary, etc.: <p>In this article, we examine the socioeconomic differences in parents’ educational aspirations and expectations. Recent empirical studies have shown that parents’ educational aspirations/expectations construct one of the processes in which inequality of educational opportunity occurs in Japan. On the other hand, some researchers have argued that educational aspirations and expectations are conceptually distinct. In addition, there is a strong association between them. However, only a few studies have explicitly distinguished between educational aspirations and expectations, and none has investigated different effects of independent variables on parents’ educational aspirations and expectations simultaneously. Thus, by using the interdependence model, we examine the effects of socioeconomic backgrounds on parents’ college aspirations and expectations, controlling for the association between the two. The results show that both parents’ college aspirations and expectations are related to parental education, family income and number of children. These results suggest that the socioeconomic differences in parents’ educational aspirations/expectations reflect differences in parents’ wishes and realistic appraisals.</p>; <p>本稿では，親の教育アスピレーションと教育期待のそれぞれに，階層差が生じているかを検証する．近年の国内の実証研究は，教育機会の不平等が生じる一つの経路として，親の教育アスピレーション・教育期待の存在を指摘する．一方，教育アスピレーションと教育期待は強く関連しているものの，両者が異なる概念であることは早くから指摘されてきた．それにもかかわらず，両者を明示的に区別した研究は限られ，親の教育アスピレーションと教育期待における独自の階層差は検証されていない．そこで相互依存モデルから両者の関連を考慮したうえで，親の大学進学希望と大学進学期待に対する階層の効果がみられるかを検証する．分析の結果，親の大学進学希望と大学進学期待は，双方とも親学歴・世帯収入・子ども数と独自に関連していた．ここから，親の教育アスピレーション・教育期待における階層差は，願望と現実的評価という二つの側面から生じているといえる．</p>
