≪アイデンティティの危機≫をめぐりさまざまな分野で真剣な問いかけが続けられている。その中で時間、空間上の他者との対話を通じた自己認識を課題とする歴史学は、いかにして新たな歴史認識の方法と歴史像をつくりあげることができるか。本ペーパーは、西ヨーロッパの歴史における多層的な自己意識とその関係性を明らかにする方法を模索することで、この課題に取り組もうとしている。記憶、ネイション、アソシエイション、そして宗教を問う新たな視座が提示される。
